Degrassi Season 13 Episode Titles (1301-1308)
Stephen Stohn has finally released information he’s been anxiously holding onto for weeks now: episode titles for season 13. We already knew that 1) 1301/1302 are titled “Summertime,” and 2) there will be no telenovela this summer. The titles released also reveal that Degrassi is also ditching the two-parter format they’ve been using since season 10.
1301/2 Summertime, 1303 All I Wanna Do, 1304 My Own Worst Enemy, 1305 About A Girl, 1306 Cannonball, 1307 Honey, 1308 Young Forever—

Degrassi News 6/18/13: Spoiler Pic from Season 13
[WARNING: THIS BLOG POST CONTAINS POSSIBLE SPOILERS FOR DEGRASSI SEASON 13. IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS, DO NOT READ BEYOND THIS POINT.
I ALSO ASK FOR YOU TO PREFACE THE PIC WITH A "SPOILER" WARNING IF YOU POST IT ON YOUR PERSONAL ACCOUNTS (TWITTER, TUMBLR, ETC) ]
************
A pic from an inside source on the set of Degrassi popped up in the fandom today, fanning the flames of rumors that have been swirling around the fandom for weeks now:
-
It’s confirmed that this pic was taken during filming of episode 1307 (Honey). The pic’s time stamp was dated May 22nd, which if you remember is two days before we discovered Degrassi was on location filming a funeral scene. They were filming the second block of episodes during that period, so that means we’ll find out the significance (or lack thereof) of the funeral scene before the summer is over.
I had a super brief chat with someone at Degrassi today, and they’re amused by the fandom freaking out over all of the season 13 rumors. In reference to one of the big rumors out there they said quote, “I know about all the rumors. But take this with a bag of salt ;)“

Degrassi Episode Review: The Time of My Life
In Degrassi’s reboot of the original Degrassi Junior High series, I’ve often found myself at odds with the show’s season premieres and finales. There was a time where I was never really impressed with either, but ever since the show rebranded itself as just “Degrassi,” we’ve had the pleasure of enjoying three strong premieres (seasons 10, 11 and 12).
The finales, however, have found themselves still falling short, in my eyes either being just “okay” or uninteresting altogether.
The season 12 finale, The Time of My Life, is a step in the right direction. Degrassi fans often complain about how Degrassi is too relationship heavy, but the fact that two of the three plots here deal with relationship drama is almost unnoticeable, as Degrassi delivers a fast-paced story with varying levels of emotional depth.
*******************
FIMOGEN PLOT REVIEW: Fimogen has come along way since their random beginning, though I’m still not sure what I think of them as a romantic couple. There were times where they were extremely cute together, but a lot of the time they had just great “friendship chemistry,” which is satisfying in itself. The setup for their plot in this episode is slightly off putting. Imogen is failing most of her classes, so she will have to repeat her senior year at Degrassi. It’s difficult to grasp that Imogen could get away with not turning in any of her work without someone around her noticing (given that her girlfriend is, you know, class Valedictorian).
Things get worse for Imogen as she learns Fiona has a chance at a job being a Junior Designer in Italy. We’ve seen three versions of Imogen so far during her tenure at Degrassi. Normally she’s a very fun-loving, quirky girl. Another side of her is her tendency to shut down when situations become too emotionally intense. The third is one we haven’t seen since season 11, the side of her which manipulates people in order to direct a situation’s outcome for her own benefit. It’s odd watching her do the latter in this episode as she pretends to be Fiona and intentionally botch Fi’s meeting with the fashion designer.
However, Imogen’s character going full circle by reverting back to her character’s initial behavior provides an outcome (Fimogen on the brink of collapse) that also highlights how Fiona, the one who’s graduating, has also come full circle since her arrival at Degrassi. It was around the last Degrassi graduation that Fiona was the one losing her mind because the person closest to her (Holly J) was leaving. We see how Fiona has matured since then, going from being the needy one receiving assurance that she can make it on her own to being the one who gives that same kind of assurance to Imogen.
It’s refreshing to watch a breakup on Degrassi that isn’t because one of the people did something stupid. Imogen and Fiona are complete opposites and they were both civil enough to realize that because their differences are taking them each down different paths, that will make it difficult for them to maintain a relationship. While Fiona moves onto her life after Degrassi, Imogen will stay behind, hoping to follow the path Fiona took as she started her final year anew.

***************
ECLARE PLOT REVIEW: Out of all the plots in this episode, this one seemed to move at the fastest pace. Maybe it feels this way because there was no dilly dallying with filler drama (the story jumped quickly from Clare finding a random prom date, to Eli showing up at her front door, to Eclare reconciling all in the first 30 minutes of the episode). There’s sincerity in their reunion as we witness two people who obviously still care about each other realizing they need to put their bullshit aside before it‘s too late.
Anyone who’s been legitimately paying attention to Degrassi (the show, NOT the fandom) since the second half of season 10 knew that Eclare having sex was imminent if they were to stay together long enough. The foundation of everything that Clare believed was destroyed with the divorce of her parents, including her stance on premarital sex.
While the Eclare fandom had much to rejoice about in this episode, the evolution of Eclare’s relationship was marred by the brilliantly-dark cloud of Alli discovering a lump on Clare’s back. For the first time in forever, Degrassi completely surprised me with a shocking moment on the show. In a time where major plot details seem to always get revealed one way or another, I’m legimately proud that Degrassi was able to keep this quiet.
While most season finales aim to wrap up everything so they can start off the next season fresh, the writers smartly lay down the foundation for Clare potentially battling leukemia in season 13. Though Clare is the leading lady of this show, this should easily be the most hard-hitting storyline she’s ever received.
-
**************
MO/JAKE PLOT REVIEW: Even until the very end, Mo and Jake continue to dismantle the belief by some in the Degrassi fandom that all characters need equal time and development in order to be useful or loved. Neither character has had a groundbreaking plot of their own. Both have relied primarily on being a sidekick or plot device for someone else, and each other. The latter always makes for good entertainment, as Jacob Neayam and Justin Kelly have phenomenal chemistry when they’re together.
Mo and Jake’s friendship is put to the test as Mo wants to make sure that he and Jake will maintain their friendship even after they graduate and head to college. Mo also has to deal with keeping Marisol happy at prom, a task he ends up struggling with after getting drunk and throwing up on the dance floor. Mo and Jake’s plot is brilliant based on its simplicity and relatability. Depending on your age when reading this, you’re bound to reach (or have reached) a point where you’re going to graduate and people you’ve been around for years will start going their own separate ways. Mo finally telling Jake he wants them to be friends forever is a heartwarming moment, even if in reality such a request might be difficult to achieve based on the randomness of life. Thank goodness this is a TV show, so we can safely assume one of the greatest bromances of this generation is endgame.

Degrassi News 6/25/13: What’s Up With Craig Arnold and Jahmil French on Degrassi?
-
With all of the news that’s been released about Degrassi season 13, two faces have notably been missing from it all: Craig Arnold and Jahmil French. For weeks we’ve been wondering, “Are Luke Baker and Dave Turner returning to Degrassi?”
On Sunday, Jahmil hosted a ustream where he answered fan questions; of course one of them was about his status for the upcoming season. I didn’t get a chance to watch the livestream, but fan reaction suggested that he probably won’t be. Heck, just casually browsing his twitter feed over the past couple of months suggests something is up. Then there was a cryptic tweet soon after:
I am my own artist. Don't you worry I will play many more characters for you to love ;)—
Jahmil French (@JahmilTF) June 23, 2013
-
Jahmil then came out today with a direct response to the rumors and assumptions:
I never said I'm not on degrassi…I'm just saying how I feel. More like saying whats real.—
Jahmil French (@JahmilTF) June 24, 2013
-
All of this back and forth still comes after Jahmil flat-out said he’s still on Degrassi at the beginning of June:
Hey I'm still on degrassi!—
Jahmil French (@JahmilTF) June 01, 2013
-
He has been filming another project this month. Who the hell knows what’s going on here, lol. However, things are far more clear in the case of Craig Arnold. Having tweeted nothing about Degrassi since season 13 started filming, he officially confirmed he’s back on the show today:
Well folks… it's good to be back at Degrassi! #backtoschool—
Craig Arnold (@thecraigarnold) June 25, 2013
-
If his character hasn’t made an appearance before now, then he’s appearing pretty late into the season.

Degrassi Season 13 Character Promos: Alli, Adam, Becky and Imogen
DegrassiBlog Offers An All-New Degrassi Experience This Summer With “Degrassi Network”
The term “Degrassi Network” has been thrown around in the Degrassi universe for as long as I can remember, but this summer I’ll be striving to make it a reality…sort of.
For the duration of Degrassi’s summer block I’m creating something called Degrassi Network, which is exactly what it sounds like: a simulation of a TV network that is all Degrassi, all the time. We’re talking more than just featured content; there will be commercials, bumpers and other things that can make Degrassi Network feel as real of a “network” as a guy (me) is capable of doing on his teeny computer in his bedroom (You’ll never confuse it for TeenNick or Much, but whatev!).
The overall theme of Degrassi Network is #DegrassiFriday. The networks are airing Degrassi on Thursdays, but I’ll still be acknowledging #DegrassiFriday by posting content on Fridays. The primary content will be the two series revealed in the promo below: Degrassi Extra and Degrassi Vine.
-
The telenovela format may not be happening this summer, but I’ve decided to bring back Degrassi Extra for a third season anyway. For those new to this blog it’s a fast-paced, sarcastic recap of the Degrassi episodes. You can check out Degrassi Extra Season 2 (last summer’s telenovela, Showdown) here: http://degrassiblog.com/degrassi-extra-season-2-showdown/
*********************
Degrassi Vine is an all-new web series that I’m producing for Degrassi summer 2013.
It’s one of those things that’s easier to show than to explain (sadly, you’re gonna have to wait to see what I mean), but basically this series will be a collection of Degrassi-related parody videos.
The inspiration for and reason why it’s called Degrassi Vine (even though Instagram just came out with video) is because I noticed how incredibly goofy the cast behaves in the Vine videos they post.
A lot of the video will be of and taken by the Degrassi cast and crew. I’ll be putting on my trollin’ hat and twisting the videos around to make them seem even sillier than they already are.
If the clips seem extremely random and stupid don’t worry, they’re supposed to be.
New episodes of Degrassi Extra and Degrassi Vine will be posted Fridays this summer here on DegrassiBlog (unless my computer explodes or I die of fangirlitis before then).

Degrassi Promo 6/28/13 (TeenNick)
Degrassi Season 12 In Review
I hadn’t really planned on doing a review of season 12 because I don’t have time to go back and look at 12A and 12B in depth, but I guess I can just talk about it in general.
In my opinion, season 12 is the best OVERALL season of Degrassi we’ve seen since the franchise rebooted itself in season 10. The Boiling Point was awesome, but excluding a few episodes, season 10 faltered after that. Season 11 definitely had its shining moments, but at the same time it was also quite inconsistent. Season 12 was far more consistent in terms of quality, anchored by strong storylines, strong acting, and a deeper focus on making those moments in between the drama interesting with wittier dialogue and LOL moments.
Just some random thoughts…
Demetrius Joyette in Bitter Sweet Symphony
When we first heard word that there would be a suicide, I assumed we would get some strong performances because of it. However, I wasn’t prepared for the amazing acting Demetrius would deliver in BSS Part 2…it’s hands down one of the best performances in the history of Degrassi: TNG.
-
Degrassi “Went There” And Sometimes The Promos/Leaks Didn’t Ruin Them
TeenNick’s penchant for highlighting the show’s relationship drama definitely worked in our favor when it came to the episode Never Ever:
-
The promo for Part 1 never mentioned anything about the A plot, which was Imogen dealing with her dad’s dementia. As disturbing as it was, it was nice to be shocked by that moment where Imogen finds Volta underneath her dad’s car.
One of the bigger go-there moments (not including Cam’s suicide) happened earlier in the season in Rusty Cage. We saw Cam in the promos sitting on the ledge. You’re lying if you seriously thought he was going to jump. Surely TeenNick was just hyping up that scene. There’s no way Degrassi would have the balls to have a kid jump off a ledge.
But he jumped. I was genuinely shocked.
Even more shocking was what happened in The Time of My Life. Some say they knew Clare might have cancer the moment we found out Aislinn had a shorter haircut for season 13. My mind never went there. I avoid speculating as much as possible about plot details. Because of that I was rewarded with a gut-wrenching revelation that came out of nowhere while actually watching an episode. I was legitimately caught off guard, and I can’t think Epitome enough for finally being able to keep something big under wraps.
-
Degrassi Is The Eclare Show Because Of The Fandom
If there’s one thing I can count on, it’s that I know the Degrassi fandom will always blow Eclare out of proportion, whether it’s a passionate Eclare fangirl or someone who hates Eclare with every fiber of their being.
Eclare barely did anything in season 12. They immediately got back together in 1201, and though they appeared in quite a few episodes together they spent most of Showdown doing their own separate things (something the writers had a couple of the ships on this show doing during that period). Eclare didn’t face any major relationship turmoil until Bitter Sweet Symphony (a friendly reminder that a whole 30 episodes passed before this).
Their breakdown in Ray of Light is a situation where if you put yourself in each of their shoes, it’s easy to understand where they’re both coming from. That doesn’t excuse the fact that neither communicated their feelings well (something that can happen in even the greatest of relationships), and it definitely doesn’t excuse Eli’s naked outburst for which he STILL hasn’t apologized (there’s so much irony in a tweet his “character” posted the day before TTOML aired):
Never ruin an apology with an excuse #forgiveness—
Elijah Goldsworthy (@RealEli) June 20, 2013
-
Every time I hear someone say “Degrassi is The Eclare Show” I roll my eyes because it’s a load of crap. Drianca was the most prominent ship on this show in seasons 11 and 12. They got caught up in a gang feud where Bianca killed someone, Drew was nearly killed (and Adam got shot), and the strain of the situation contributed to their breakup. They did get back together, but not before lots of tension between Bianca and Katie…oh and there was that thing where Drew drunkenly slept with the girl he was supposed to break up with so that he could get back with Bianca. Drianca eventually got engaged and even ran off to Vegas, coming *this close* to being only the fourth Degrassi couple (composed of primary characters) to have ever gotten married in the 30+ year history of the Degrassi franchise. Degrassi spends two years putting Drianca through all of that, yet no one says a word. Eclare has sex on prom night and suddenly the show is unrealistic and playing favorites.
I do not ship Eclare. However, just as some of the Eclare fanbase can be biased to the point where it negatively clouds their judgement regarding Eclare, the other side can be just as biased to the point where they unfairly criticize Eclare when said criticism is unnecessary (something I had to witness a lot of in a season where Eclare’s relationship drama was kept at its lowest point since the ship was created in The Boiling Point). What season 12 has taught me is that the fandom is still in the fandom’s own head when it comes to this ship, and I’m not sure why that’s the case since Eclare’s been around for nearly three years…everyone on both sides should’ve grown out of the “let’s lose our freakin minds when it comes to Eclare” phase by now.
-
Drianca Is Where It’s At
These two have come a long way since their first encounter in the boiler room. Season 12 continued to show us a Bianca who was steadfast in her desire to improve herself and her life. Of course Drew spent a lot of time acting like a dumbass, but as we got closer to and got through the Vegas episode I began to see not only does it look like Drew and Bianca both take their relationship seriously, but also the writers seems to be serious about having a couple in a committed relationship, one that remains so even after one of them has graduated. The scene where Bianca showed confidence in Drew (who has no confidence in himself) sealed the deal on my feels:
-
This is the part where I confess that I now ship Drianca.
-
Why In The Hell Did They Do That?
The most ridiculous scene of Degrassi season 12 came in Karma Police, when Fiona decided she wanted to buy a gun from a bunch of thugs hanging out near an alley:
-
I know that people do stupid things regularly…that’s kind of a running theme on Degrassi. There’s a website called FARK.com where all they do is compile real news stories of people doing stupid shit. But the difference is those people tend to not be the brightest of bulbs to begin with. Fiona isn’t an idiot. Even if she was scared out of her mind, I’m not sure what would motivate her to approach a bunch of random thugs at night, then follow them into an alley with no concern for her immediate safety given what she had just been through (her approaching them I could maybe see, but the moment she agreed to go with them into the alley is when this plot went beyond the point of recovery). I’ve tried in the months since this episode aired to wrap my head around it, but I still can’t grasp the idea that anyone on Degrassi is stupid enough to do what Fiona did.
There’s also a lot of disappointment because Fiona’s storyline in Karma Police was really good in Part 1. Then out of nowhere the story goes sideways in Part 2, with the cherry on top being us getting slapped in the face with a cheesy, happy Fimogen ending as if the absurdity we’d witnessed minutes earlier was no big deal.
-
Degrassi’s Finest Bromance Busts A Common Fandom Perception
Mo and Jake’s bromance was an awesome part of Degrassi season 12. They provided us with lots of laughs and a chemistry that was fun to watch. Friendships on the show provide the chemistry we want to see in a “ship” without the constant threat of a breakup looming overhead.
There are always complaints about how Degrassi goes about giving storylines. “Why does ____ get another plot?” “Why don’t they ever give a plot to _____?” It’s not a difficult concept to understand that characters have varying roles on the show, but apparently it’s a difficult one to accept. Being in the opening credits doesn’t mean shit. Characters don’t “deserve” storylines. I’ll always be in Degrassi’s corner on this topic because the show simply can’t go around trying to give everyone equal time and equal development. But where this show has largely succeeded over the past several years is making sure to:
1) Find ways to incorporate secondary characters into the show more frequently, and
2) Use primary characters as secondary characters.
Remember back during the TNG days? If a character didn’t have a plot or wasn’t connected directly to the plot’s character they wouldn’t appear in the episode. Degrassi nowadays manages to have characters overlapping each other so they aren’t so separated from each other because of their social groups, and even have random characters interacting with each other even if only once or twice (ex: Cam/Bianca in Say It Ain’t So, and Cam/Alli in I Want It That Way).
Now back to Mo and Jake…how many major storylines did these two characters have, solo or together?
Zero.
However, they somehow managed to become a well-liked addition to the Degrassi universe despite the biggest thing we knew about these guys were that Mo has diabetes and Jake sometimes has feelings and likes to smoke weed. They’re a prime example of how you don’t need to be a well-developed character and don’t need to receive big plots in order to be an important or relevant part of the show. How many plots a character receives means little…it’s all about how characters utilize the screen time they’re given. Mo and Jake managed to make the absolute best out of what little they had.

RSVP for Degrassi’s Season 13 Premiere Party on July 11th
Next Thursday, Degrassi will have its annual premiere party in the parking lot of MuchMusic in downtown Toronto. Much VJs and the Degrassi cast will host New.Music.Live. in the parking lot at 6pm. The cast will sign autographs and take photos starting at 7pm until the season 13 premiere is aired in the parking lot starting at 8pm (remember, Much is airing episodes at 8pm, while TeenNick is waiting until 9pm).
To RSVP for the event, click here: http://www.muchmusic.com/tv/degrassi/s13premiere/
If you have the chance to go, the event itself is worth it if you’ve never been before. Even though there’s an organized part for pictures/autographs and they’ll be rushing fans through that quickly, there’s still times where the cast members (current ones and past ones) will be roaming around the crowd.
With that said, there’s been absolutely no word in months about anything in regards to whether or not there will be “Party With Degrassi” events this year in the U.S.

New Degrassi Promo 7/4/13 (TeenNick)
MuchMusic posted more in-depth details about its summer plans (the premiere party and the new weekly after show) and a description about the one-hour premiere here: http://www.bellmediapr.ca/Network/MuchMusic/Press/MuchMusic-Rings-in-the-Summer-Season
In the Season 13 premiere, school’s out and summer’s in! A few lucky Degrassi students are bound for a once-in-a-lifetime romantic trip to Europe, accompanied by some fresh new faces. Maya is looking to play it cool and put the past behind her, but things heat up when she makes a questionable judgment call and winds up banned from the trip! Clare thought her summer would be a bummer with Eli off in New York City, but the Europe trip on the horizon promises sunny skies ahead, as long as her cancer results come back negative. Meanwhile, Adam got an awesome summer job at Degrassi’s Kid’s Camp, but his beach babe Becky is Florida-bound for the next two months. He’s insecure about being apart and wonders if the time and distance will kill their relationship.
